Your head aches and your vision is blurry. From what you can gather, you're in a small room, the ceiling is low and the air smells of rust. To your left you see an open door way. A light comes form the other room.
You push yourself to your feet.
[[Go to the light]]
[[Attempt to search the room]]
(set: $hasTorch to false)
(set: $hasBlade to true)You stumble through the door way and find another empty room save for a mirror on the wall to your right. Only one other door way leads out of the room. You grab the gas lantern off the mount from the wall behind you
(set: $hasTorch to true)
[[Look to the mirror]]You run your hands along the walls and kick your feet as you walk. You find nothing.
[[Go to the light]]You see your reflection, you look haggard and sick. Fortunatley you appear to be armored and equiped with a short blade. You cannot seem to recall how you ended up here. You can't seem to recall much of anything.
You pat yourself down to check for wounds but you appear to be fine. Your flesh is cold to the touch and a black sigil is burned into the back of your hand.
[[Exit out the opposite door]]
[[Return to the room you began in]]You cross the threshold into the next room to find a branching corridor, three paths lay before you. From the leftmost passage you hear a shallow skittering noise, "rats", you think. You feel a warm gust come from the right passage and the middle, a dim light.
[[Go Right]]
[[Go Left]]
[[Go Straight]]You enter the room and hold the lantern up. You scan the walls and ceiling but see nothing.
[[Proceed to the other room|Exit out the opposite door]]You head down the path and encounter a dead end.
You head back the way you came.
[[Go Left|Run towards the sound]]
[[Go Straight]] You walk for some time passing the occasional roachling or rat. As you walk further your head begins to ache and you lose your balance.
[[Stop to rest]]
[[Continue forward]]You begin walking down the path, you see a faint glow coming from the end of the passage.
[[Turn back|Head left]]
[[Go towards it]]You lean against the stone wall and slide to your bottom. The aching lessens but you are still dizzy.
You hear a hissing coming from the path ahead.
[[Stay]]
[[Get Up]]
You continue forward, your ears are ringing now.
[[Continue|Draw your weapon]]You lean your head back against the wall and listen. The hissing is getting closer now and you begin to make out the faint patter of flesh on stone.
[[Get up]]You struggle to your feet. The sound is getting closer. You now hear the slapping of bare feet on the stone floor.
[[Draw your weapon]]Your ears ring and your field of vision closes in. From the darkness the reach of your torch light illuminates a set of eyes. It's getting closer. You see it's head bobbing, it's running on all fours in your direction.
[[Ready your Strike]]You struggle to your feet and draw your blade from it's scabbard. Your head is throbbing and your vision blurs.
The slapping of it's footsteps approaches quickly.
[[Ready your weapon]]In the blink of an eye the beast is upon you. It lunges at you, gropping for your throat.
[[Swing]]
[[Attempt to roll away]]
(Live: 2s)[(goto: "Ready your weapon")]Before you can act the beast shrieks, charges, and leaps on top of you. Your blade clatters against the wall.
On top of you is a monstrosity you cannot even begin to describe, it is hideous. A swollen mass of rotting flesh and protuding bone. It locks two of it's deformed appendages around your throat and begins to squeeze.
(set: $hasBlade to false)
[[Kick at the Beast]]
[[Reach for your sword]]
[[Pry at its "hands"]]You swing from the hip and embed the sword into the creatures abdomen. The blade stops upon reaching it's spine and the beast howls in agony and then falls limp, taking your blade with it.
You hear more hissing from the passage behind you. Or is that the way you were going...
[[Take your weapon]]
[[Run towards the sound]]
[[Run the opposite way of the hissing|Keep running]]You duck and roll to the side of the creature. As you regain your footing it skids to a stop and turns to face you.
[[Swing again|Swing]]
(Live: 4s)[(goto: "Ready your weapon")]You place your boots to the beasts chest and kick. It releases it's grip and rolls away into a lopsided stance, hissing and gurgling.
[[Pickup your weapon]]
[[Run]]The beast has you pinned and the blade is out of your reach.
[[Kick at the Beast]] You reach to you throat and try to peel away it's appendages. It's grip is iron strong and you are far to week to even attempt nudge it.
[[Kick at the Beast]]
[[Reach for your sword]](if: $hasBlade is true)[With Blade in hand you run towards the noise. Two more beasts are in full stride towards you.]
(if: $hasBlade is false)[Two more creatures stand in your path both more repulsive than the beast you had just slain. You reach for your blade but it is gone.]
[[Attack]]
[[Run]] You quickly pickup your blade from the floor and turn to face the creature.
It pants and returns to a pouncing stance. This time you are ready.
(set: $hasBlade to true)
[[Charge it]]
[[Wait for it to attack]]You turn your back to the creature and run. It takes up chase and you can feel it breathing down your neck. You seem to be faster than the creature as it's breath grows softer against the nape of your neck but you daren't turn back to look.
Your armor is heavy; you could run quicker with less of it.
[[Remove your tunic and mail]]
[[Keep running]]You retrieve your weapon from the corpse and scan the hallway. The hissing is getting louder again.
(set: $hasBlade to true)
[[Run towards the sound]]
[[Run the opposite way of the hissing|Keep running]] You pull the mail and tunic over your head and toss it behind you. You are now topless with only your blade, trousers, and boots.
(set: $hasArmor to false)
[[Keep running]] You continue running and find yourself back at the crossroads you began at.
A chorus of gurgles and hisses come from the path you just came from. More creatures are on your trail.
[[Go Straight]]
[[Go Right]]
You rasie your blade above your head and swing with a cleaving swipe. The beast is slow to respond and doesn't even move as you embed the blade up to the hilt in it's skull.
It falls down lifeless.
You hear more hissing from the passage behind you. Or is that the way you were going...
[[Run towards the sound]]
[[Run the opposite way of the hissing|Keep running]] It leaps at you. Shrieking.
[[Swing]]
(Live: 2s)[(goto: "Death2")]You don't swing in time and the creature lands on top of you, stealing the wind from your chest. It pins your arms to your sides and places another appendage over your mouth.

You feel a sharp pain through-out your insides. Everything fades to black. (if: $hasBlade is false)[(go-to: "Death3")]
(if: $hasBlade is true)[You swing at the nearest creature and take off its head. The other one leaps for you and attacks.]

(live: 5s)[(go-to: "Death2")]
[[Finish it]]You roll to the side and the creature misses.
(live: 2s)[(go-to: "massturns")]
[[Finish it]] The two creatures charge and pin you to the ground. Your head is spinning and you black out.

The monstrosities take turns ripping away your flesh and gnawing on your limps. Your remains will rot here for the rest of time. The creature turns to face you but you cleave it's head in two before it can pounce again.
[[Head left]]
[[Head right]]You take to long to finish it and the beast turns to you again. It shrieks and runs right, down the corridor.
[[Follow it]]
[[Head left]]Your head is aching, you no longer have the eneregy to run so you walk down the path it went.
You come to a chamber with a high ceiling. Cages containing more of the creature you just fought hang from the ceiling. They hiss at the sight of you. A stone obelisk stands in the center of the room. The walls are lined with cells and catwalks. You don't see any movement aside from the cages above.
[[Approach the obelisk]]You go back down the corridor and find yourself at the crossroads you began at.
[[Go Straight]]
[[Go Right]]
[[Go Back]]You leave the bodies to rot with the rats and roaches. Your head is aching.
You come to a chamber with a high ceiling. Cages containing more of the creature you just fought hang from the ceiling. They hiss at the sight of you. A stone obelisk stands in the center of the room. The walls are lined with cells and catwalks. You don't see any movement aside from the cages above.
[[Approach the obelisk]]You approach the obelisk and begin noticing engravings on it's faces. You don't recognize the language.
On one of it's face is a handprint carved into the stone.
[[Touch the marking]]
[[Search the room]]As you get closer you begin to smell a thick aroma of ozone, "smells like rain", you think. The light grows brighter.
As you approach the next room the air grows thick and it becomes difficult to breath. The light and air send your head spinning and you grow nauseous.
[[Enter]]
[[Turn back]]You walk back down the corridor, passing more roaches and the corpses of those monstrosities. You eventually come to a chamber with a high ceiling. Cages containing more of the creature you just fought hang from it. They hiss at the sight of you. A stone obelisk stands in the center of the room. The walls are lined with cells and catwalks. You don't see any movement aside from the cages above.
[[Approach the obelisk]]You push past the waves of nausea and stumble into the brightly lit room. Before you lies a courtyard, the ceiling open to the sky and a deep fog has set over the courtyard. It is clearly night as you scan the sky, stars perforate the darkness but the light appears to be coming from further into the fog.
[[Approach it]]You are back at the crossroads.
[[Go back|Go Straight]]
[[Go Right]]
[[Go Left|Go Back]]As you draw closer the light begins to bob and move through the fog.
[[Get closer]]Through the fog you can make out a tall figure clad in some sort of sheet-mail embroidered with emblems and characters you cannot distinguish from where you stand. A lantern swings from it's hip.
You take another step forward and the figure stops pacing. The light goes out and it disapears back into the fog.
From your right you hear the jingling of armor and chains.
(live: 3s)[(go-to: "Death5")]
[[Draw your weapon|weaponknight]]
(if: $hasBlade is false)[(go-to: "Death4")]
You draw the blade from it's sheath and stand at attention. You hear clanking metal on stone approaching from the distance, you can't make out from which direction, however.
You sense a presence from behind you.
[[Roll|Roll aside]]
[[Attempt to block]]
[[Swing your weapon]]You duck and roll away just as a halberd strikes the spot you were standing only moments ago. You see the figure recovering from its strike.
(live: 3s)[(go-to: "Leapaway")]
[[Strike]]You raise the blade infront of your face just as the stranger attacked and succesfully blocks its strike. You stand face to face with your opponent as you both push to parry the others blade. You notice its stature, easily four meters tall and clad in black plate-armor its face obscured by a wrapped cloth.
[[Roll aside|Samurairoll2]] You swing your blade and collide with its own. You stand face to face with your opponent as you both push to parry the others blade. You notice its stature, easily four meters tall and clad in black plate-armor its face obscured by a wrapped cloth.
[[Roll aside|Samurairoll2]] You slash at it's neck and dispatch it with ease.
Just as you motion to place your blade back into it's scabbard the torso of the figure bolts off into the fog leaving behind it's head.
[[Examine the head]]
[[Ready for another strike]] You quickly shove the knight with the hilt of your blade and roll to the side. Before you can look back to your opponent, it is gone.
[[Explore the room]]
[[Stay at attention|Ready for another strike]]Before you can strike the figure dashes away into the fog.
[[Ready for another strike]]
[[Run for the door]]You put your back to the cold stone wall behind you and stand at attention with your blade held low.
The courtyard is silent under the night sky, the fog begins to drain from the room and a garden is revealed to you.
Across the garden is another doorway.
[[Leave The Garden|go left]]Your opponent is clearly much quicker than you. There is no chance of you reaching the door, you think to yourself.
(live: 3s)[(go-to: "Ready for another strike")]You hold your lantern high to see through the fog but it doesn't help much.
From your left you hear metallic footsteps approaching.
(live: 4s)[(go-to: Block)]

[[Block]]
[[Roll aside]] You kneel down to examine the head when you hear it's footsteps appraoching again. You attempt to raised your sword to block but it's no use. The now headless knight lunges through the fog and slashes at you.
Everything goes black.

The reanimated can fall; even the dead can die again. You approach the obelisk and begin noticing fading engravings on it's faces. You don't recognize the language.
On it's northmost face is a handprint carved into the stone.
[[Proceed to the next room]]
[[Place your hand on the mark]]You lunge towards the approaching footsteps with blade outstretched. You feel a thud as the blade pierces its armor. The armor pieces fall to the floor and scatters, there was no one inside.
you peel the black chest-piece from the end of your blade and toss it aside.
The courtyard is silent under the night sky, the fog begins to drain from the room and a garden is revealed to you.
Across the garden is another stone doorway
[[Leave The Garden|go left]]As you rasie your blade to block it's strike the knight changes it's angle of attack and cuts at your chest, knocking you into a low wall, your block is of no use.

The black knight stands over you and watches as you bleed out. You attempt to strike at it but your strength is fading fast and the blade merely pings off the armor. Your vision fades to black. You continue past the stone structure and into the hallway beyond. You are met with a ladder going up and down. You look down and see nothing but black; Looking up reveals a twilight sky perforated by cloud cover.

[[Right|go right]]You reach for your blade but it is gone, the tall knight dashes at you and swings

Silence. Death. You walk down a blank corridor for some time, your head still aches but the nausea and ringing has subsided. Just as you begin to grow weary of this seemingly endless corridor you reach a clearing.
The ground is barren and burned, oak trees creep over the tops of the surrounding walls, before you, across the clearing, is a set of large wooden doors.
[[Approach the doors]]You take the right path and find yourself at a cross roads. you've been here already, the path ahead leads to the room you were just in. The path to your right is illuminated and the room to your left contains the mirror you first noticed upon waking in this place.
[[Take the right path|Go Straight]]As you step into the clearing you hear a sharp snort from over the walls, the trees rustle. You stop in your tracks and the noise disapates.
You reach the doors and push. It requires a lot of strength but you manage to nudge one of the doors enough for you to squeeze through, before you now is a cathedral, rows of pews and large vases decorate the scene.
Across the room you see a smaller wooden door and above is a balcony with another set of large wooden doors.
You hear a low gurgling noise echo off the walls.
[[Continue]]You step further into the cathedral and the large doors slam behind you. Theres no chance you could pull the door open, you could barely push it.
There is heavy, wet slap onto the floor behind you, you turn to face the sound and are met with a towering pile of tentacles slowly pulling itself towards you.
[[Run for the far door]]
[[Prepare to fight]]You draw your blade and begin circling the creature. It lashes out an arm to strike you.
(live: 5s)[(go-to: "hitarm1")]
[[Block|blockarm1]]
[[Attack|attackarm1]]You bolt for the door on the far end of the room, leaping over pews and knocking over the decor. Just as you hurdle the last pew you are struck from the side by one of the creatures countless arms and spiral against the wall, you are breathless.
[[Attempt to run]]
[[Stand and fight]]The creature makes another swipe for you but misses by a hair, you can feel the heat and discharge from the creature.
You reach the door and kick it open.
Just as you move to roll into the room another appendage wraps around your leg.
(live: 5s)[(go-to: "Death6")]
[[Cut it]]
[[Struggle free|strugglefree1]]You crawl to you feet and prepare to defend but the creature is on the offensive. It swipes at you again and hits you farther back into the room.
[[Fight]]
[[Make a run for the door|Attempt to run]]You swipe at the attacking arm and cut off about a meter length of the appendage, blue blood sprays from the wound and covers you. The creature lets out a chorus of gurgles and shrieks. Another arm frantically reaches for you.
[[Dodge-roll]]
[[Strike again]]You rasie your blade to block the arm but it is no use, the outreached tentacle wraps around your blade and pulls it from your hand, tossing it across the room. Before you can react another arm reaches for you.
[[Dodge]]You were too slow to react and the beast wraps its arm around your waist, raising you into the air.
[[Slash at the arm]]
[[Struggle free]]You frantically swipe at the arm holding you. Your attack is weak but you mannage to cut the tendril enough for it to let you go. The creature is still upon you.
[[Run for the far door]]
[[Stand and fight]] You attempt to struggle free as the creature shake you violently, slamming you against the floor and wall. You become extremely nauseous and vomit.
The creatures grip is far too strong to escape.

You are slammed against the wall and faint. You rasie your blade in preparation for another strike.
The beast closes in fast and launches another volley of swipes.

[[Defend]]
[[Roll out]]
[[Strike|strike2]]You slash at the arm and sever it, fresh blue blood spreads out along the floor. From the other room you hear the creature howl in frustration.
Ahead is a flight of stairs, behind you the creature is attempting to reach you through the small doorway.
[[Ascend the stairs]] You kick at the arm but it doesn't react. The arm is pulling you back out towards the cathedral.
Just as your resistance begins to give so too does the lacing on your boots and it slides free.
Ahead of you is a set of winding stairs. Behind you the creature is attempting to reach you through the small doorway.
[[Ascend the stairs]]You attempt to roll to the side and are hit by a flailing tendril. You lay in the middle of the cathedral.
[[Run for the far door]]
[[Stand and fight]] You successfully roll out of the way of the arm and now stand between the beast and the doorway.
[[Run for the far door]]
[[Fight]]You step in to swing at the approaching arm just as another slams down on top of you.
You're dazed as the initial arm collides with your side sending you reeling across the room.
[[Keep fighting]]
[[Run for the far door|doorrun2]]You regain your footing and charge the beast. An arm swipes at you but it is easily dodged. You get closer and raise your blade to strike at the center mass when it charges back and tackles you.
You are pinned to the ground by it's weight and your blade is somewhere else now.
The center mass envelopes you and you feel your limps being pulled in all directions.

Slowly. Without prejudice; this is how a life is taken. You leap to your feet and bolt for the door.
The creature makes another swipe for you but misses by a hair, you can feel the heat and discharge from the creature.

[[Cut at the arm]]You roll and bolt for the door.

There is clearly no chance of you defeating this creature.
You stand between the beast and the door.

[[Attempt to run]] you ascend the flight of stairs and are met with a pleasant sight. Before you is a cliffside, no walls, no creatures; You can see the stars clearly from here and can see a faint glimps of the sun cresting the horizon. To your immediate right is another set of large wooden doors.
[[Open the doors]]
[[Leave]]You push open one of the doors and find yourself on the balcony you noted from the cathedral. Below you is the massive contortion of tentacles.
[[Turn Back|Leave]]
[[Plunge the beast]]You step out onto the cliffside, the sky is illumiated by faint pink light, the stars grow more distant.
As you approach the cliff's edge you begin to hear faint chattering, voices.
[[Investigate]]In a bout of rage you leap from the balcony and dive towards the creature. Your blade gleams with malice.
It halts it's wailing and pauses to look up just as your blade plunges into the center mass. The beast thrashes and shrieks but your frustration far out weighs the will of this amalgamation.
After flailing wildly and striking your body the creature falls limp and collapses to the stone floor.
You are wounded and struggle to stand. Your blade breaks as you attempt to pry it from the corpse leaving you with a short jagged edge.
[[Go back up the stairs]]Your breathing is ragged and you are bleeding from several wounds but you manage to struggle up the stairs to the cliffside.
[[Leave|leavehurt]]You stumble out onto the cliffside and collapse. the sky is illumiated by faint pink light, the stars grow more distant.
As you lay there you begin to notice faint voices somewhere nearby.
[[Investigate|inv2]]You follow the chattering and encounter a large nest. Inside are two fledglings chittering.
"Pa-pa-paa, pumperup!" one proclaims.
"Gertas papera shine." says the other.
They both turn to look at you and cease speaking.
[[Talk]]
You once again struggle to your feet and follow the sounds of the voices.
As you search you begin to feel faint and trip over a large stone. Upon landing you are face to face with two large fledglings in a nest.
They look at you inquisitively.
"Paperum?" one says.
"Tapa shine." states the other.
The continue staring and making odd cooing noises.
[[Talk|talk2]]You kneel down in front of the nest and the two fledglings step towards you.
"Where am I?" you ask.
-No response.
"Who are you?" you ask again.
-No response.
You sign with dissapointment and move to put you blade into it's scabbard when the two erupt into caws of excitement.
"Shine! Pa oo-ta." Shrieks one.
"Give thine." begs the second.
[[Leave|goend]]
[[Lay down your blade]]"Who?" You ask through gritted teeth.
The stare back blankly.
As you move to stand up again you drop your broken blade before the two.
"Shine! Pa oo-ta." Shrieks one.
"Gaba shad." The other says.
The first fledgling moves to examine the blade when the other pecks at it. The first halts its approach.
Just as you motion to pick up the hilt a sharp screech comes from below the cliff-face.
A massive bird lands behind the two fledglings at looms over you.
[[Grab your weapon]]
[[Stay still]]You leave the two to their chattering and sit at the edge of the cliff, legs dangling over. The sun is now streatching across the horizon and daylight begins.

Survival is a victory in its own. To fail is to die.You place the blade at the fledglings feet and the coo excitedly. Each taking turns admiring their reflections and chattering to eachother.
A sharp caw comes from below the cliff-face.
You stand to investigate when a black wall shoots up before you. Now infront of you is a massive black bird of some kind.
It looks to you and then the fledglings (who don't seem to be interested in anything other than the blade).
Before you can react the massive bird leaps into the air and grabs onto your shoulders with it's talons.
The massive avian carries you out over the woodlands below, you are both in awe and terrified of what is to come.

You fly for sometime until the bird reaches yet another nest and sets you inside. It leaves and you are once again alone. The sun is cresting to the east and to the west you see a winding cobblestone path. You quickly snatch the broken blade and roll away from the nest. The bird steps over the nest and shrieks at you. You stand at attention.
[[Strike|strike3]]
[[Block|block3]]The massive bird looks you up and down caws loudly. The other two fledglings coo and chitter. Just as you anticipate death the bird grabs you by the arms and lifts you into the sky.

And now... the darkness holds dominion – black as death. You struggle up the ladder to the open sky. Upon reaching the top you see a sprawling network of walkways all along the walls, in either direction is a turret. The one to your left is dark but the one to your right is illuminated by a faint yellow glow. Never before had death undone so many, centuries of conflict in the North had dwindled the kings armies leaving his kingdom woefully undefended, the embers of invention fading.
Just when all hope seemed lost, the court sorcerer revealed his history of experimentation on the wounded and sick of the lands reaches to the King. From there the King ordered hordes of his men to attend to the Sorcerer's experimentation resulting in horrid monstrosities, death and eventually success. Before long the undying became innumerous and without fear of death, they rebelled against their fuedal lords and sought to quash the ember that sustained them.
This was long ago, countless empires have risen and fallen since then yet still the undead walk the earth, with them too do the beasts of Eldritch seeking to devour the light that gives birth to humanities ingenuity.
The flames are fading and soon only dark will remain. Even now there are only embers. Amongst the living are beholden, carriers of the curse, due to die and die again until their minds are naught.
A black emblem brands the Undying. In this land, the Undead and Eldritch beast are corralled and led to the north, where they are locked away, to await the end of the world... This is your fate.
In legends it is stated, that one day an undead shall be awoken to leave the asylum in pilgrimage, to the land of the old lords where they shall rekindle the embers of humanities fire.
